Whale Shark Adventure
The island of Holbox is a convergence point for the waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea and from May to September becomes home to one of the most impressive marine animals in the world – rhincodon typus. We are privileged to be one of only a handful of spots in the world where the whale’s come close enough to shore (and the surface) to be able to snorkel with them.
Slipping into the water and discovering that you are swimming next to a fish the size of a school bus, passively vacuum cleaning the surface of the sea is a wonderful rush of adrenalin. Despite their immense size, the Whale Sharks pose no harm to swimmers and being next to these giants is exhilarating - we suggest you do it as often as possible!
Tours last most of the day and include snorkel equipment. We have seen dozens of Sharks at once and sometimes only one or two; nature has its own schedule. On your tour, expect to see rare birds, dolphins, turtles and giant Manta Rays. Afterwards a stopover at the secluded beach at Santa Eulalia mangroves for fresh ceviche made by your captain is included. Tours can be customized to visit a small reef for more snorkeling, or fishing for your own ceviche. Private and group rates available.
